Scholarship Program

The Society of Sponsors of the United States Navy’s most important activity is its Scholarship Program which is funded by many donors whose contributions range from small amounts to major endowments.
The Society supports three major scholarship programs. First, financial support is provided, in whole or part, to three qualified prospective Naval Academy midshipmen for a year of preparatory study. These students are designated: The Mrs. Arleigh A. Burke Memorial Scholar, The Elizabeth S. Hooper Memorial Scholar, and The Society of Sponsors of the United States Honor Scholar. The Naval Academy Foundation notifies the Society regarding the selection of these young men and women.

Second, the Society supports the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation with a named scholarship: The Society of Sponsors of the United States Navy Centennial Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to children of Marines and Navy Corpsmen attending accredited colleges, universities, and vocational/technical institutions, with particular attention given to those whose parent has been killed or wounded in combat, or who have demonstrated financial need.

Third, the Society contributes to the United States Naval Academy STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) summer program. This program provides scientific and engineering learning experiences for middle and high school students. In addition it provides STEM Educator Training (SET) Sail Workshops for teachers.
